Jiggers!!!!!

Friday a new boy came into Amecet. His name is Sam. Sam was brought to police because his mother is not taking care of him very well. His has jiggers all over his hands and feet. I have never seen a case that looks as bad as this one.
Jiggers are a parasite who go under your skin and lay eggs there. These eggs make worms again and so on. If you don't treat this it can destroy your toes. Sam had so much pain from them he didn't sleep the whole night.
Normally, Simon is always the one to remove them. But Sam had so many and they were so deep that is was simply to painful to remove them. So yesterday I went to the doctor, who is our neighbor. We decided to put Sam under total anesthesia and then remove all the jiggers. As you see in the picture we did it outside!! this is because everybody is scared that the jiggers will spread. So we placed a gurney behind the clinic and the nurse gave Max the medication to put him to sleep.  I had the whole time one hand on his chest and one on his pulse to check if he still had a normal heard beat and regular breathing. Because no one here really checks that. The nurses had to work for 2.5 hour on his feet and we are still not completely done yet. There were simply too many. So we will continue on Tuesday.

The nurses and the doctors didn't expect Sam to walk soon because of his wounds. Sam slept the rest of the day up till he started playing this morning. Sam loves cars and when he thought I was going with the car, I couldn't believe how fast he was following me!! Even as I write this I see him jumping on the trampoline! I think his pain is not more than he already was used to.

You see how he is playing on the picture. He still has a few tough moments coming. Please pray that he is able to manage the pain and that his feet will heal well. The police forced the mother to clean her compound, clean her children, remove all jiggers, and wash all the clothes. Simon will check on the house soon and help her clean the place.
