Amecet n'ainapakin (Shelter of Peace) is a ministry of Youth With A Mission (YWAM)in Soroti, Uganda. We are reaching out to HIV infected and affected children. We also are caring for new born babies, who lost their mother after the delivery. The third group of children we help, are children who need a safe place, they mostly come via the police. In this blog we want to share with you our stories, our pictures, our needs and blessings!

World AIDS day in Amecet

As our Amecet tradition, we stood still today by the children who passed away, this year. We lost in total 9 children, not all because of HIV, but also due to an illness or a sudden sickness. We all came together in our living room and several staff members lightened a candle for one of the 9 children and said some few words about the child. From the nine children, 3 died at home and one in the Hospital, but 5 died in Amecet. And it was emotional for several staff members, it is if we felt again the pain and the suffering of the child.
We have Morning Glory flowers growing outside, that are flowers which blossom only for one day, but they are beautiful!! Our children are like that, they might only blossom for a short time, but they were beautiful.

After the sharing of the staff members, we prayed and we had a time of singing and thanking God.
As a sign of  life for so many children who are alive and doing well, I had asked some children to pick flowers and put it in a vase. This is what Cathy did, but okay, there are flowers and they are in the vase, so no complain..........

And at the end we sang for Carmen, one of the volunteers from Holland. She has been with us for 3 months and is leaving on Thursday... We will miss her and prayed God blessing over her travel and adjusting back home in  (cold) Holland!
It was a good time together and we closed the meeting with a bottle of soda!!!
